Mute swearing and names before you share a classroom or HR clip

Some recordings are useful except for a handful of words. A classroom clip names a student. An HR conversation includes a slur. A podcast take has one line you will not put on a public page. Cutting the whole file is the wrong fix. You need those minutes. You do not need those words.

Mute is not the same as cut

Swear and name mute leaves the length alone. It silences or bleeps the moments you cannot share and keeps the rest of the recording. You get a safer file plus a short log of what was silenced.

That matters for a lesson: the explanation still lines up with the slide. It matters for a meeting you must archive at the original duration.

How to run it

Upload the audio or video. If you already know the names or phrases, type them in. The tool transcribes first, finds those moments, and mutes them. If you leave the list empty, it still looks for common swear words.

What you should still check

Names have nicknames. “Alex” and “Alexander” are not the same string. Add the forms you actually heard. A name said unclearly may not appear in the transcript, which means it will not be muted.

When a scanner is the better first step

Check the silence log

The short log is the part people skip. Read it against the transcript. If “Jordan” was muted but the same person was also called “Jo,” add the short form and run it again. If a muted stretch is longer than a word — a whole apology, a whole joke — decide whether you still want that hole in a file you will archive at full length.
