What this tool does
Managers ask for “the recording.” What they will play is eight minutes. This tool is not a silence-only trim and not a montage invented from a title. “Strongest spoken stretches” means transcript cues that score higher because they are longer, or because they contain a spoken number, a commitment (“I will” / “we will”), a request-like line, or a question. Everyday asides and repeated filler talk score lower and are more likely to be dropped. Kept cues are put back in time order, so the briefing still follows the meeting. If the spoken time is already inside your budget, we do not cut. Weaker speech is dropped even if it was not silent.
How it works
- 1You set a keep budget from 1 to 40 minutes.
- 2Each spoken cue starts with a score equal to its duration.
- 3Extra weight is added when the line contains a number, a commitment, a task-like request, or a question mark.
- 4Highest-scoring cues are collected until the budget is full, then sorted back into time order and joined.
- 5You download that shorter file and a list of kept stretches. If spoken time already fits, the file is left as-is.
Who it is for
Managers, team leads, and anyone with an hour-long file and a short window to listen.
What you can use it for
Team update nobody will replay
A 47-minute standup is sitting in a chat. People will not play it. Upload the file and set 8 minutes. Lines with dates, “I’ll send…,” and questions rank above the weather talk. You download an eight-minute-class briefing and a list of kept moments you can skim before you forward it.
Long lecture to a shorter listen
A recorded class has definitions mixed with asides. Upload it and pick 15 minutes. Dense explanations that mention numbers or questions are more likely to stay. Repeated jokes and long asides are more likely to go. You get a shorter file, not a new syllabus.
Client walkthrough too long to send
The walkthrough is an hour. The client asked for “just the decisions.” Upload it, keep 10 minutes. Spoken prices and commitments rise in the ranking. You send the short file plus the kept list so they can jump to a line if needed.
Example: 47 minutes kept to 8
An ops lead uploads a 47-minute weekly update and types 8 in the minutes field. Spoken time is far above 8 minutes, so a cut runs. Cues that mention “Friday,” “40,000,” and “can you update the board” outrank a long story about the office move. Kept cues are joined in order. The numbers below are an illustration of the result shape.
Kept 1 04:12 “I will send the revised quote Friday.”
Kept 2 11:03 “The price is still 40,000.”
Kept 3 22:40 “Can you update the board before Monday?”
Kept 4 31:18 “We are going to freeze the scope after this.”
Short file: update-short.mp4 (~8 min)
Weaker asides and repeated status were dropped.
What you get
One shorter audio or video file near your target, plus a timed list of kept stretches. If spoken time already fits the budget, we report that and do not cut.
- Target length you choose, up to 40 minutes
- Keeps lines with numbers, commitments, requests, and questions first
- Joins kept speech in the original order
- Lists every kept stretch with its time
Supported files
MP4, MOV, or WEBM video, or MP3, M4A, or WAV audio. Upload from your device. We do not fetch files from other sites.
Limits to know
“Strongest” is a practical score (length, numbers, commitments, requests, questions), not a human editor’s judgment of importance. A crucial aside with no number or promise can be dropped. The short file is still in time order, but it is not a written summary. Scoring depends on the transcript: a missed number cannot boost that line.
Tips for better results
- Eight minutes is a briefing people finish. Forty is the maximum here.
- A file that is only “um” and dead air is a job for the filler-word tool. This page may drop weaker spoken parts, not only silence.
- If you cannot send the full file at all, extract safe clips instead of shortening a sensitive recording.
Questions
How do I shorten a long video to a few minutes?
Upload the recording and type how many minutes to keep (1–40). Highest-scoring spoken stretches are joined into one shorter file.
What does “strongest spoken stretches” mean?
Longer cues score higher. Extra weight is added for spoken numbers, “I will / we will” commitments, request-like lines, and questions. Everyday asides score lower.
What gets removed?
Cues that did not fit the budget after higher-scoring lines were kept — often repeated status, small talk, and talk with no number, promise, request, or question.
Is this the same as removing silence?
No. Silence-only keeps the whole talk and drops gaps. This aims at a time budget and can drop weaker speech too.
Will the shorter file stay in order?
Yes. Kept stretches are sorted back into the order they were said.
What if the file is already short?
If spoken time is already within your minutes, we do not cut and we say so.
Can I use this on audio only?
Yes. Upload MP3, M4A, or WAV and download a shorter audio file.
