Compare a Script with a Recording

Compare a script with a recording when the written lines and the take have drifted. Paste the script and upload the take. Each written line is scored against the transcript by word overlap: hit if most content words match, changed if some match, missed if almost none do. Counts of hit / changed / missed are shown. Clips are offered for changed and missed lines so you can hear what you said instead. Extra ad-libs that are not in the script are not listed as their own rows.

Useful for Creators, presenters, students practicing a viva

  1. 1The script is split into lines (or sentences if you pasted a paragraph).
  2. 2Each line is compared to every transcript cue by shared content words.
  3. 3About 55% overlap or more is a hit; about 28–54% is changed; below that is missed.

Or use the general upload for a transcript, summary, chapters, and chat. All tools.

Run this tool

A recording and the written script are both required.

What this tool does

You hear the take as close enough because you know what you meant. This page scores the script, not the whole recording. A swapped discount or a missed name shows up when those words are in the script line and missing from the best-matching cue. Changed means overlap is only partial — the idea may be there, the wording drifted. Missed means no cue is close enough. Names and numbers are just words in that overlap; they are not a special checker. Spoken extras that were never in the script do not get an “ad-lib” row. We do not rewrite the script.

How it works

  1. 1The script is split into lines (or sentences if you pasted a paragraph).
  2. 2Each line is compared to every transcript cue by shared content words.
  3. 3About 55% overlap or more is a hit; about 28–54% is changed; below that is missed.
  4. 4Hit / changed / missed counts are totaled.
  5. 5Changed and missed lines can get a short clip of the nearest take, when one exists.

Who it is for

Creators, presenters, and students checking a read-through or viva against written lines.

What you can use it for

Ad read with a swapped discount

Paste the legal line that contains “20 percent.” Upload the take. If you said “25 percent,” overlap is only partial — changed — and you can hear the take. If you skipped the line, it is missed. You catch it before the spot goes live.

Course video definition

Paste each definition on its own line. Upload the recording. Skipped definitions are missed. Loose paraphrases are changed. You see which card to retake.

YouTube script you paraphrased

A claim that drifted hard will sit on changed or missed, with the script text in the extra field. Ad-libs you added on camera will not appear as extra rows — only script lines are scored.

Example: three script lines, mixed result

A creator pastes three legal lines and uploads a 40-second take. One line matches, one swaps the discount, and one never appears. Illustrative comparison:

Hit Take: “Free shipping this week only.”
Script: “Free shipping this week only.”

Changed Take: “Save twenty-five percent today.”
         Script: “Save 20 percent today.”

Missed Script: “Offer ends Sunday at midnight.”
No close line in the take.

Counts: Hit 1 · Changed 1 · Missed 1

What you get

Every script line with a status, the best matching take (if any), the original script text, counts, and clips for changes and misses.

  • Line-by-line hit, changed, or missed
  • Word-overlap scoring, including names and numbers in those lines
  • Counts of each status
  • Clips for misses and changes, not a list of extra ad-libs

Supported files

MP4, MOV, or WEBM video, or MP3, M4A, or WAV audio. Upload from your device. We do not fetch files from other sites. You also paste the written script.

Limits to know

Scoring is word overlap, not meaning. A correct paraphrase with different words can be “changed” or “missed.” Extra spoken lines are not inventoried. Thresholds are approximate. A weak transcript will miss hits.

Tips for better results

  • One idea per line. A whole paragraph is harder to score cleanly.
  • Put the exact name or number in the script line if that is what you must not miss.
  • For pace and filler habits, use the rehearsal scorecard. This page does not count “um.”

Questions

How do I compare a script with a recording?

Paste the written lines and upload the take. Each line is marked hit, changed, or missed against the transcript.

What does “changed” mean?

Some content words match, but not enough for a clean hit. You decide if the drift is acceptable.

Are extra ad-libs listed?

No. Only script lines are scored. Talk that was never in the script does not get its own row.

Do names and numbers get special treatment?

They are words in the overlap. A swapped number often lowers the score into changed or missed.

Will you fix the script?

No. Rewriting is your edit.

Can I hear the missed line?

When a clip can be cut from the nearest take, yes.

Is this the same as a rehearsal score?

No. This is line-by-line against a script. The rehearsal tool reports pace, filler, questions asked, and optional point coverage.
